We’re all bored, it seems.
The world has come to a screeching halt. Move along. Nothing to see here.
Nothing strikes our fancy, it seems. Do a search for bored on Twitter and hundreds of references come up.

For example:
Home, Bored; nothing to do
Awfa bored. Wish I had something to do.
hmm.. very bored. someone keep me entertained please.
People are bored everywhere, it seems. It doesn’t matter if we’re at home, at school or in church.
500 channels on television and we’re bored.
Hundreds of thousands of Internet sites and we’re bored.
We have social media networks, instant messaging, music from lastfm.com and Pandora.com. And we’re still bored.
The Library of Congress includes more than 32 million cataloged books and other print materials in 470 languages. I guess we’ve run out of books to read.
None of these cash-strapped agencies need any volunteers any more. Your church probably doesn’t have anybody for you to visit.
Writing letters to family would never make them feel good. Learning a new language would be a waste of time.
Go ahead and be bored. I’ll be busy doing something else.

I used to tell my kids, "You're bored? I'll give you something to do." They soon learned not to be bored. Great post, Mike.

Ironically, because there is so much to do in modern America, we've rarely had to search for something interesting. So when we fall into a lull, we don't know what to do. It's kind of like we don't know how to raise or hunt for food because we have well-stocked grocery stores. Interest is always worth seeking and bringing into otherwise boring situations. I coach people to find interest where it's not apparent, for example, kids in school or people stuck somewhere. See me at ThePowerOfBoredom.com I coach by phone to support students with ADHD for whom boredom is a frequent problem.

Awhile back I started taking a book with me wherever I go. I always have something to read in the diaper bag, car, when I sit outside on a rare sunny day. I don't think I have been bored once since I started doing that. (but I have probably missed a lot of what is going on around me!)
